Michael Blanding is an award-winning magazine writer who covers politics, social issues, and travel. He has written for publications including The Nation, The New Republic, Salon, AlterNet, The Boston Globe, Condé Nast Traveler, and Boston Magazine, where he is a contributing editor. For his stories, he has won several awards, including a bronze medal from the City and Regional Magazine Association, and first- and second-place prizes from the National Associate of Real Estate Editors. For two years in a row, Michael was also a finalist for the prestigious $10,000 Livingston Awards for Young Journalists, the largest prize for journalists under the age of 35.

Some of his favorite stories include an expose on the conditions of migrant workers in New England; a rollicking narrative about the exploits of a troubled identity thief; an investigation into the brutal repeated rapes of a prisoner by his own guard; and a profile of Lori Berenson, an American woman convicted of terrorism in Perú. Michael is currently at work on his second book, a travel guide to Vermont or Moon Handbooks, which will be published in May 2008. He has taught magazine writing at Emerson College, Northeastern University, Tufts University, Media Bistro, and Grub Street Writers. He lives in Boston, Massachusetts with his wife Alexandra Hall, senior editor of Daily Candy and an accomplished writer and editor in her own right; and their two children, Zachary Martin Hall Blanding and Cleo Simone Hall Blanding.
