Virginia Festival of the Book

  • JMRL Library - McIntire Room 201 E Market Street Charlottesville, VA (map)

Join Michael for the panel discussion, "Bibliophile or Book Criminal--or Both?"

Rare and antiquarian works – from books to maps to manuscripts – have a power all their own. An otherwise healthy obsession, the pursuit of these rare works has sometimes had a corrupting influence, compelling individuals to cross lines both legal and moral. Authors Michael Blanding (The Map Thief: The Gripping Story of an Esteemed Rare-Map Dealer Who Made Millions Stealing Priceless Maps) and Charlie Lovett (First Impressions: A Novel of Old Books, Unexpected Love, and Jane Austen) discuss the hows and whys.

Moderated by Travis McDade (Thieves of Book Row).
